JOSEPH V. MELILLO, BAM EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
I get chills when I listen to Mavis Staples sing. Everything about her—from her no-holds-barred music and lyrics to her magnetic stage presence—reflects her surging optimism and her unwavering commitment. As dark as these days can sometimes seem, Ms. Staples reminds us that we are poised at the brink of change. One song at a time, she is keeping Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream alive and inspiring all of us to do the same.

I'll see you in the lobby, or you can reach me at joe@BAM.org.
