Morris
Day & The Time
"What time is it?" is the rallying cry from funk and
R&B group Morris Day & The Time. Established by Prince
in 1981, The Time honed an outrageous, theatrical stage act in
Minneapolis and released the groundbreaking funk albums
The
Time (1981),
What Time Is It? (1982),
Ice Cream
Castle (1984), and
Pandemonium (1990). Their records
spawned a string of hit dance singles in the 80's-including "Get
it Up," "Cool," "Jungle Love," "777-9311,"
and the song that created a dance of the same name, "The
Bird." Led by flamboyant frontman Morris Day, The Time's
infectious, multi-layered concerts are a unique musical experience
that includes comical skits, Zoot-suits, and dance routines. The
Time's music, along with Morris Day's antics with colleague Jerome
Benton, were featured in the classic cult film
Purple Rain.
Their latest album
It's About Time was released in 2004-a
year which also saw the band open for Prince on select dates of
his "Musicology" tour.
