Choreographer David Dorfman, a Chicago native, started David Dorfman Dance in 1985. The company has performed extensively in North and South America, Great Britain, and Europe. Dorfman was the recipient of a 2005 Guggenheim Fellowship and has been honored with four fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, three New York Foundation for the Arts fellowships, an American Choreographer's Award, and a Paul Taylor Fellowship from The Yard. David Dorfman Dance has been honored with eight Bessie Awards and has been the company in residence at Connecticut College since 2007. The company was previously at BAM with To Lie Tenderly (2000 Next Wave) and underground (2006 Next Wave).
