In conjunction with Seán Curran Company’s Dream’d In a Dream, a Next Wave Festival collaboration with Kyrgyz folk music ensemble Ustatshakirt Plus, BAM Visual Art presents a series of portraits of the production's dancers by New York-based artist and photographer David Samuel Stern.

Each piece in the series results from Stern’s unique process of physically weaving together two large-format studio portrait photographs printed on translucent vellum. Stern captures the original images digitally in a lighting studio in Brooklyn, and cuts and weaves by hand. The resulting “woven portraits” are at once physical objects and rhythmic abstractions of their subjects.

This exhibition is open to BAM Harvey Theater ticket holders attending performances from September 16—December 20. It will also be open to the public during the 2015 Next Wave Art Opening Reception on October 5 from 6—8pm.
