CURRICULUM CONNECTIONS: History (civil rights, civics, government)

From award-winning documentarian Stanley Nelson (Freedom Riders) comes this comprehensive portrait of the volatile summer of 1964.

Using interviews with Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee volunteers and remarkable period footage, Nelson captures the embattled efforts of civil rights activists to register voters in segregated Mississippi. This topic is made all the more poignant in light of recent restrictions placed on the Voting Rights Act.
