Community Partnership
Through a twelve-year partnership between BAM and the
Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation (BSRC), more
than 3400 students have been afforded the opportunity
to study the performing, visual, and literary arts, as well
as the cultural history of several countries in Africa and
the African Diaspora. Students from Restoration's Center
for Arts and Culture's Youth Arts Academy will perform
alongside The Gambian dance/music ensemble Ceesay
Kujabi and the Bachinab in the BAM Howard Gilman
Opera House. These performances will be prefaced by a
special community welcome for the visiting artists held
at Restoration Plaza on May 17. Bedford Stuyvesant
Restoration is the nation's first community development
corporation, celebrating its 40th anniversary year.
From its inception, the corporation has been dedicated
to improving the quality of life for the people of Central
Brooklyn, fostering growth and development through
economic, cultural, educational, and social ventures.
