Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn “define ‘chemistry’ in the movies” (Dave Kehr) as a pair of married lawyers who find themselves representing opposite sides of an attempted murder case in this battle-of-the-sexes farce, sparklingly scripted by husband-and-wife writer team Garson Kanin and Ruth Gordon. The memorable supporting cast includes Judy Holliday as the witless defendant and David Wayne upstaging everyone as the couple’s gay songwriter neighbor.
