Following in the tradition of shaky found-footage POV genre films like The Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield, Chronicle one-ups them with a smart, snappy screenplay by Max Landis (John Landis fils) and engaging performances by a trio of young actors. Three Seattle teens, including the introverted and troubled Andrew (DeHaan, in a disturbing performance) are imbued with extraordinary powers after they encounter a glowing object in a cave. Though they’re initially delighted with their newfound abilities, events soon take a dark and devastating turn, which threatens to destroy the entire city.
