The diaristic pixelvision videos Sadie Benning shot in her teens “gave voice to the age-old adolescent longing for knowledge—of self, of love, of the world” (Roberta Smith, The New York Times) and are some of the greatest “teen movies” ever made. Screening with First Comes Love, Su Friedrich’s meditation on the rituals of matrimony, and Peggy Ahwesh’s Martina’s Playhouse, which Ahwesh describes as "a response to Pee Wee's Playhouse, focus[ing] on the girl child, grappling with the fluidity of gender roles as she role-plays with her toys."
