US Marshall Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) is dispatched to an asylum for the criminally insane on creepy Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a patient—but when the disturbing dreams about his dead wife set in, he starts having flashbacks to Dachau and begins to suspect that head psychiatrist Dr. Cawley (Kingsley) and his colleague Dr. Naehring (von Sydow) are up to…something. Scorsese evokes Hitchcock, classic noir, and gothic horror in this baroquely stylized psychological thriller.
