Adapted from the hit Broadway musical, this Motown-produced, all-African-American take on The Wizard of Oz was a surprising commercial failure upon its release, but has since been embraced as an undeniable showcase for some of pop music’s most legendary acts. The film boasts stars Ross and Jackson, a soundtrack crafted by such luminaries as Ashford and Simpson, Luther Vandross, and Quincy Jones, and a New York City backdrop with Coney Island and the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station thrown into the spectacular mix of locations.
