Film
2 by Norman Mailer: Maidstone + Untitled
- 7:30PM
The third, wildest and wooliest of Mailer’s guerilla-style, cinéma vérité assaults on convention, Maidstone stars the larger-than-life writer-director as Norman T. Kingsley, an experimental filmmaker whose East Hampton estate is overrun by an unruly collection of actors, intellectuals, reporters, and radicals. Over the course of 105 minutes, Mailer/Kingsley heatedly debates, verbally abuses, sexually harasses, and physically attacks the members of the mob—culminating in a totally un-staged, caught-on-film attack on Mailer by a crazed, hammer-wielding Rip Torn.
This screening will be followed by a discussion with Mailer's son Michael, biographer J. Michael Lennon, and film archivist Michael Chaiken.
In conjunction with our screening of Maidstone and Untitled, we’re giving away two Norman Mailer Eclipse box sets courtesy of the Criterion Collection.
