Directed by Norman Jewison | 1984

With Howard E. Rollins Jr., Adolph Caesar, and Art Evans

Towards the end of World War II, an African-American army officer is sent to Jim Crow Louisiana to investigate the murder of a black sergeant. Based on the Pulitzer-Prize winning play by Charles Fuller and nominated for three Academy Awards, the movie received critical acclaim when it was originally released in 1984. With a bluesy score by Herbie Hancock, and featuring Denzel Washington in one of his earliest cinematic roles, this film presents a haunting narrative of a bitter era in American history.
