That’s the direction for star rugby player Roddy (Novello), who goes from golden boy to public disgrace and bottoms out as a Parisian gigolo when he takes the blame for a school chum who’s gotten a girl pregnant. Hitchcock injects characteristically surprising humor into the proceedings, while laying forth the earliest expressions of what would become pet themes: the “wrong man” and the transference of guilt.
