Directed by Hayao Miyazaki | 1984

Miyazaki’s first great success is a stunning vision of a post-apocalyptic world populated by enormous mutant insects and virtually uninhabitable for humans. Out of this toxic environment, Nausicaä (the first in a long line of strong Miyazaki heroines) emerges and seeks to understand the ecological devastation that created it. This early masterwork contains many hallmarks of the director’s later films, including a concern for the natural world and a humanist moral relativity.
