Directed by Alfred Hitchcock | 1927

With Ivor Novello, Isabel Jeans, Ian Hunter, Annette Benson, Robert Irvine, Norman McKinnell, Violet Farebrother, Barbara Gott

Downhill is certainly the direction for star rugby player Roddy (Novello), who goes from golden boy to public disgrace and bottoms out as a Parisian gigolo when he takes the blame for a school chum who’s gotten a girl pregnant. Hitchcock injects characteristically surprising humor into the proceedings, while laying forth the earliest expressions of what would become pet themes: the “wrong man” and the transference of guilt.
