Directed by Víctor Erice | 1973

With Fernando Fernán Gómez, Teresa Gimpera, Ana Torrent

Considered by many to be the greatest of all Spanish films, The Spirit of the Beehive tells the story of two young sisters who are entranced by Boris Karloff in Frankenstein when a traveling projectionist screens the classic horror film in their village. Set in gorgeous rural landscapes in the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, this singularly evocative ode to childhood is one of only a handful of films made by Victor Erice, one of cinema’s most enigmatic auteurs.
