Directed by Michel Gondry | 2004

With Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet, Kirsten Dunst, Tom Wilkinson, Elijah Wood

"Deft, witty, and vastly enjoyable."
—J. Hoberman, The Village Voice

Joseph LeDoux, director of the Emotional Brain Institute of NYU, will discuss the nature of memory and its connection to human emotions in conjunction with this screening of Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. In this acclaimed romantic drama, Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine (Kate Winslet) turn to medically induced amnesia to get over their heartbreak after a breakup—only to fall in love all over again and repeat the same mistakes. Featuring eccentric performances by Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, and Elijah Wood, and a haunting score by Jon Brion (Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love), Michel Gondry’s emotionally fraught, sci-fi-inflected trip down the rabbit holes of memory won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
