Discover some of the most innovative animators from around the world in these nominees for the Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. The program features Feral (dir. Daniel Sousa, US), the story of a wild boy found in the woods who must adapt to his new environment when he is brought back to civilization; Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Get a Horse! (dir. Lauren MacMullan, US), which pays homage to the earliest Mickey Mouse short films with meticulous hand-drawn animation; Mr. Hublot (dir. Laurent Witz, Luxembourg/France), a character study of an idiosyncratic man partially made of mechanical parts; Possessions (dir. Shuhei Morita, Japan), in which a man from the 18th century enters a shrine that suddenly transports him to a different world; and Room on the Broom (dirs. Max Lang & Jan Lachauer, UK), based on Julia Donaldson’s children’s book about a friendly, animal-loving witch, featuring voices by Gillian Anderson, Sally Hawkins, and Simon Pegg.
