Andrei Tarkovsky’s landmark of philosophical science fiction unfolds as a psychologist is dispatched to a space station outside the fictional planet of Solaris. The remaining crew have gone insane and the rules of consciousness seem to break down, leaving him to confront his innermost memories and desires. Made in response to Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris draws us into its mysterious orbit as it explores not the wonders of a brave new world but the far more complex enigmas of the human mind.
Go to the movies just once a month and a BAM membership pays for itself.
