Indonesian monkey chanting, Mongolian throat singing, and
Balinese body popping are just a few tricks that Akim Funk Buddha
has embraced as a means of redefining hip-hop. He continues that
tradition with another Hip-Hop Holiday weekend at BAMcafé
Live.
On Friday, November 23, Akim toes the fringes of the genre with
help from Calvin Booker aka DJ Boogie, Swiss Chris on traps and
electronic drums, MCs from the Urban Jedi League, and others. On
Saturday, November 24, Akim presents his Urban Orchestra, merging
Balinese kecak, Japanese kagaku music, and other genres with tight
rhyming, beatboxing, and a futuristic soul train that only Funk
Buddha could engineer.
