Multi-instrumentalist and singer Aloe Blacc is a neo-soul artist who transcends the genre entirely. Best known for his punchy single "I Need a Dollar," which was featured as the theme of the HBO series How to Make It In America, he's also the brains behind a brilliantly eccentric, minor-key cover of Sam Cooke's "Change Is Gonna Come," mournful blues that channels Bill Withers, full-fledged hip-hop throwdowns, and other offerings that defy the contemporary soul category.
