A renowned authority on Yoruba culture and religion, John Mason is also a percussionist and composer, helping to expand the improvisational vocabulary of spirituals, blues, rap, and more with the musical languages of West Africa. Mason and his band appear as part of DanceAfrica 2012, performing an assortment of sunny acoustic numbers that bridge traditions and continents.
