Julius Caesar
Royal Shakespeare Company
By William Shakespeare
Directed by Gregory Doran
The world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company returns to BAM with a new twist on Shakespeare’s classic political thriller—its first production under the helm of newly appointed artistic director Gregory Doran. Set in present-day Africa and featuring an all-black cast, the RSC’s visionary interpretation offers incisive echoes of recent regime struggles throughout the continent. Live performances of contemporary West African music by Akintayo Akinbode and sets by Michael Vale heighten the impact of Doran’s inventive take on the Bard’s tale of political conspiracy, fallen friendships, and betrayal.
Composed by Akintayo Akinbode
Choreographed by Diane Alison-Mitchell
Sets and costumes by Michael Vale
Lighting by Vince Herbert
Sound by Jonathan Ruddick
