In 2008, Morgan Freeman offered to pay for the prom at Charleston High School in Mississippi if the students agreed to discontinue their segregated proms and have one integrated event with both black and white students. This film follows the day-to-day discussions and drama among the various factions of Charleston High as they struggle with generational prejudices, class and racial divisions, and conflicts among friends and families.
