"If dance is indeed a weapon, Akim Funk Buddha is some kind of delightful drunken master." —The New York Sun

Fri, Nov 28

From Indonesian monkey chanting to Balinese body popping, there’s little Akim Funk Buddha hasn’t embraced as means of revealing the true richness of hip-hop culture. For his latest, Akim looks to artists Spirit Child of Movement in Motion, Mazzi Behi (Soul Purpose), Dumi RIGHT (Zimbabwe Legit), MC Why-G, and others for a night of old-school meets nu-school hip-hop, orchestrated by a true BAMcafé Live favorite.

Sat, Nov 29

With a spirit so infectious it takes two nights of BAMcafé Live to do it justice, Akim Funk Buddha returns for a second session, this time armed with “Cosmic Funk Hop” inspired by music from South Africa, China, and Japan. Featured artists include Jo Jo Kuo and others, along with mbira, throat singing, body popping, dance performances, and everything else we’ve come to expect under the Funk Buddha sun.
