In conversation with Debbie Millman
Co-presented by BAM, Greenlight Bookstore, and PEN America
World-renowned artist and human rights activist Ai Weiwei comes to BAM for the launch of his highly anticipated memoir, 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows. He is joined by Debbie Millman, an author, educator, curator, and host of the podcast Design Matters. While being held by Chinese authorities in 2011, Ai Weiwei decided to write a memoir about his extraordinary life and the legacy of his father Ai Qing, once the nation’s most celebrated poet. At once ambitious and intimate, 1000 Years of Joys and Sorrows serves as a timely reminder of the urgent need to protect freedom of expression.
