Dean Wareham

Singer and guitarist Dean Wareham was born in Wellington, New Zealand, and in 1977 moved to New York City, where he attended high school. He graduated from Harvard University in 1985. His band Galaxie 500 emerged from Boston in 1988 and made three albums that influenced a generation of indie rock bands. Bookforum recently called it “the ultimate cult group, a band who set the stage for the indie scene of the 21st century.” Wareham went on to record seven studio albums with his next band Luna and three more with his wife Britta Phillips as Dean & Britta. Dean & Britta’s recent collaboration with the Andy Warhol Museum, 13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, toured the world for four years. In March 2014 Wareham released an eponymous solo album.
