With Martha Frintzila

Tue, Feb 24 at 6:30pm / 2hrs 30min
Mark Morris Dance Center

Greek theater director, actor and singer Martha Frintzila leads this master class in myth that explores the transformation of gods and humans, a popular subject in ancient Greek mythology. Immersed in the fears and desires of the gods, participants employ a range of acting techniques to dramatize the natural and the supernatural. For actors, movers, and theater enthusiasts of all levels.

With Anne Bogart

Tue, Mar 31 at 6:30pm / 2hrs 30min
Mark Morris Dance Center

Starting with the Greek myth of Persephone, this composition class, led by artistic director of SITI Company Anne Bogart, investigates the relationship between ancient myth and modern stories. Participants should have a thorough familiarity with the myth and its origins and are encouraged to bring relevant music or text. For experienced and professional dancers and actors.

With Rinde Eckert

Tue, May 5 at 6:30pm / 2hrs 30min
Mark Morris Dance Center

Interdisciplinary artist Rinde Eckert leads this master class, which takes inspiration from the myth of Orpheus. Participants workshop stories from their own lives and discover how different variables— applying physical constraints on the storyteller, altering the context of the delivery, gesture, movement, and music—can change meaning and reveal an almost mythic depth. For dancers, actors, singers, and anyone with an interest in interdisciplinary performance.

With Paul Lazar

Tue, May 26 at 6:30pm / 2hrs 30min
Mark Morris Dance Center

Co-artistic director of Big Dance Theater Paul Lazar leads this class for actors and dancers interested in exploring the zone where dance and theater intersect. Based on the belief that Greek drama exists at that nexus point, this workshop takes elements from plays that use myth as their inspiration, demonstrating how to bring them to life with speech and movement. For actors and dancers.
