For immediate dancers. All ages.

Choreographer Tamara Thomas, recipient of the 2017 Chuck Davis Emerging Choreographer Fellowship, gives a taste of the movement that comprises denkyem, a contemporary pan-African technique she has been developing. During her time in Ghana as part of the fellowship, Thomas studied various styles of traditional dance. In this workshop, she shares her findings, introducing students and practitioners to the ways in which African diasporic movement can prepare the body for African and non-African dance spaces alike.

The Chuck Davis Emerging Choreographer Fellowship is supported by The SHS Foundation.
