Creative Conversation: The Second Woman
- 12PM
Mark Morris Dance Center
Co-presented by BAM and Mark Morris Dance Group
With Nat Randall and Anna Breckon
In conjunction with The Second Woman
Nat Randall and Anna Breckon, the creative minds behind this season’s 24-hour theatrical event The Second Woman, lead a participatory conversation on developing multidisciplinary work for the stage. Through their collaborative practice, which resides at the intersection of film, theater, and performance art, they consider what it means to bring modes of pleasure, narrative structures, and styles of performance into the theater space.
In this intimate roundtable, Randall and Breckon guide participants through the many considerations of performer and spectator: How can the techniques developed in the discipline of performance art inform a sense of liveness in the theater? How can film technology be used in a live performance to transform the overall experience? How can we develop theatrical works out of structures developed from other art forms?

In this epic feat of endurance theater, actress Alia Shawkat performs the same scene—inspired by Cassavetes’ meta-theatrical film Opening Night—100 times, with 100 different men, each with disarmingly divergent results.
