Empty moves (parts I & II)
NY Premiere (Empty moves part II)
Ballet Preljocaj
Music by John Cage
Choreography by Angelin Preljocaj
Whether putting a modern spin on the classics (Snow
White, with costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier) or creating
blazingly original works (N, Ballet Preljocaj; Le
Parc, Paris Opera Ballet), French choreographer Angelin
Preljocaj challenges conventional ideas about form and content. In
Near Life Experience (2004 Next Wave), performed to
electro band Air, he explored the limits of extreme
sensation.
This season, Ballet Preljocaj makes a rare New York appearance
with Empty moves (parts I & II). Set to a live
recording of John Cage's Empty Words-a meditation on the
sensuality of words freed from language-Empty moves
follows suit, relishing in the body's remarkable ability for
precise line, clarity, and form.
