Dance
Untrained
Choreography by Lucy Guerin
Lucy Guerin Inc
My Show:
A look at how the untrained approach the act of moving, and what
it reveals about them as individuals. It's about bodies recording
history.
Sights and Sounds:
Four dancers (two trained, two untrained), a square taped to the
floor, and instructions on stage for them to follow as best they
can.
If I could untrain myself in one thing, it would be:
The instilled movements learned from other choreographers. It's
like being possessed!
A body's physical history is:
What it's done all its life. But also how its "owner" thinks about
it. Is it friend or foe? Enjoyable or limiting?
If I could choreograph for any nondancer, it would be:
Maybe Germaine Greer. Or a marching band. Or my parents, but I
think they would get impatient. They have never quite understood
the point of it all.
