Continu
Sasha Waltz & Guests
Directed and choreographed by Sasha Waltz
German dance-theater icon Sasha Waltz has turned the stage into a flame-licked apocalypse (Gezeiten, 2010 Next Wave), a teeming humanoid specimen box (Körper, 2002 Next Wave), and a sun-soaked underwater playground (Dido & Aeneas, Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg and Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin).
In Continu, 21 dancers hurtle through a landscape of chaos yielding to calm, propelled by Edgard Varèse’s 1927 orchestral masterwork Arcana, along with music by Iannis Xenakis, Claude Vivier, and Mozart. As emotion vies with reason, bodies careen and convulse across a volatile terrain in this exhilarating summation of the last decade of Waltz’s career, originating from site-specific projects for the Neues Museum Berlin and Zaha Hadid’s MAXXI museum in Rome.
