DanceAfrica 2015
Artistic Director Chuck Davis and Artistic Director Designate Abdel R. Salaam
This year DanceAfrica traces the transatlantic roots of Brazil's music and dance traditions, welcoming Balé Folclórico da Bahia to the BAM stage. The 38-member troupe of dancers, musicians, and singers performs a repertory based on Bahian folkloric dances of African origin: slave dances, capoeira, and samba.

Chuck Davis (1937—2017) was the founding artistic director of DanceAfrica.

BAM/Restoration DanceAfrica Ensemble celebrates ancestral roots and the modern-day community.

This 32-member troupe is the only professional folk dance company in Brazil.

Abdel R. Salaam is the Artistic Director for DanceAfrica.

We hope this study guide will enrich a study of DanceAfrica 2015.
