Nimbus Dance Works
Nimbus Dance Works celebrates its 10th anniversary season at BAM, where the company will present the world premieres of Patch of Turf by Samuel Pott, featuring original music composed by Qasim Naqvi performed live by Brooklyn’s NOW Ensemble, and Scene/Nimbus by Luca Veggetti with sculptural art pieces designed by artist Moe Yoshida and original music composed by Paolo Aralla. The evening programs feature the company premiere of Pearl Primus’ 1942 work Strange Fruit, a seminal modern dance work about a racial killing. Additional repertory include Pott’s 2012 collaboration, Scarabs, with Brooklyn visual artist Nicola Lopez and Hong Kong composer Samson Young, as well as modern dance pioneer Charles Weidman’s 1936 work Lynchtown, which is performed alongside a companion piece, Thistown, by student dancers from New Jersey City University and Drew University.
