EXPLORING THE ART FORMS ACTIVITY: BUNRAKU-STYLE PUPPETRY

Even the most exquisite puppets can be made from common every day materials. In this activity students and teachers will create puppets made from objects found in their classroom and imbue the puppets with human characteristics.

EXPLORING NARRATIVE ACTIVITY: EXPERIMENTAL THEATER

Examine the different types of theatre (Comedy, Melodrama, Drama, Tragedy, Musical, or Avant-garde) through the use of a common piece of text. Then, Students consider how current events in the Middle East effect an audience's interpretation of Salt of the Earth?


Post-show Activities

EXPLORING THEMES ACTIVITY: UTOPIA

Discuss their reaction to the performance of Salt of the Earth. To examine the idea of utopia, students create a scene based on a quote from Oscar Wilde and from Lois Lowry noel The Giver.

EXPLORING THE ART FORM ACTIVITY: LIVE VIDEO

Engage in a debate regarding the possibility of a utopian society, and create and stage a dialogue defending their side of the argument.
