Un Film Dramatique
Virtual
Dir. Éric Baudelaire | 2019, 114min
Filmed over the course of four years, this playful and resonant documentary follows a group of 22 middle schoolers on the outskirts of Paris as they discuss the drama of their daily lives and experiment with cameras and equipment. They are both the film’s subjects, and its makers. With a refreshingly uninhibited approach, Éric Baudelaire (Letters to Max) crafts a lively portrait that offers a new perspective on our sociopolitical moment. As the students debate the approaching elections and the immigration crisis, they also seek to answer a key political question—what are we doing here together?

Haunted by a prophecy that he will die at age 20, a young man escapes his mother’s watchful eye and begins to question his destiny in this auspicious debut from Sudanese filmmaker Amjad Abu Alala.

A vivid portrait of this uniquely Black British sound that developed in the late 70s and 80s against a backdrop of riots, racial tension, and sound systems.
