BAM DEBUT
Violinist Jennifer Koh and bass-baritone Davóne Tines are both virtuosic classical performers, celebrated around the world. Both are artists of color who have to put on a front in order to succeed in white institutions, arming themselves with scrupulous professionalism and counter-stereotypes.
Together, they set out on an inward journey of rediscovery. Developed over multiple years by an all-BIPOC creative team, this powerful staged musical work centers the need for artists of color to be seen and heard. Through music, projections, and recorded interviews, Koh and Tines tell the story of their artistic journeys and family histories. While showcasing its creators’ stunning musical versatility, Everything Rises breaks new ground as Koh and Tines reclaim their own narratives about who they are and how they got where they are today.
