Directed by E.A. Dupont | 1923

With Henny Porten, Ruth Weyher, Hermann Vallentin, Avrom Morewski, Ernst Deutsch

This rarely screened silent film follows the ambitions of Baruch Mayr, the son of an orthodox rabbi from Galicia who decides to break from the family tradition and leave the shtetl to become an actor in Vienna. An evocative depiction of Jewish life and the atmosphere of Viennese theater, Dupont's film will be accompanied by a live performance of a new soundtrack by pioneering multimedia artist Thomas Köner.
