Robert Florey, master of expressionist horror, helms this creepy, crawly classic chiller in which a dead pianist’s severed hand comes back to terrorize his resentful secretary (Lorre). Impressive special effects (including a disembodied hand tickling the ivories) and stylish camerawork lend loads of Gothic atmosphere, while Lorre, scheming and squirming throughout, is at his schizoid, bug-eyed best.
