Directed by Martin Scorsese | 2002

With Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, Cameron Diaz, Jim Broadbent, John C. Reilly

“Scorsese’s Old New York is a gaudy multiethnic carnival of misrule, music and impromptu theater...”
—A.O. Scott, The New York Times

Scorsese harkened back to the freewheeling New York of Walsh’s The Bowery for this epic saga of gang wars in mid-19th-century Manhattan. Daniel Day-Lewis gives a tour-de-force performance as the foppish Bill the Butcher, leader of the Protestants, who clash bloodily with the newly arrived Irish immigrants. Scorsese spectacularly recreates Old New York as “a Breugel painting come to life” (A.O. Scott, The New York Times).
