Hell hath no fury like the seductive and very, very angry undead ladies in this stylish J-horror-meets-art-house ghost story. After being brutally raped and murdered by samurai, a mother (Otowa) and daughter-in-law (Taichi) dish out vengeance in the form of feline spirits, ripping open the throats of their attackers. Shindô’s hallucinatory fable—shot in glittering, gorgeous widescreen black and white—conjures a bewitching, dreamlike atmosphere.
