"With a rare combination of unflinching realism in its portrayal of poverty and injustice faced by natives of Madagascar and magical fantasy, this drama promises to be a film not soon forgotten."
—The New York Times
In this poetic exploration of traditional and modern concepts of human freedom, a child is born during the solar eclipse and, according to traditional beliefs, thought to possess destructive powers. When his community leaves him to die, he is rescued by a woman from another village, but grows up embittered about his past and must find a way to reconcile with it.
