Directed by Derek Jarman | 1993

With Karl Johnson, Michael Gough, Tilda Swinton

“Beautifully and thoughtfully designed, like Joseph Cornell boxes with black backgrounds.”
—Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader

This droll, Brechtian take on the life of Ludwig Wittgenstein charts the philosopher’s plush childhood in Vienna, his contentious relationship with fellow intellectual Bertrand Russell, and his struggles with his own homosexuality. Jarman’s fantastical touches abound as the influential thinker finds himself, variously, trapped in a birdcage and conversing with a fuzzy green Martian.
