Directed by Spike Lee | 2014

With Stephen Tyrone Williams, Zaraah Abrahams, Rami Malek

“Lee has delivered a sleek, stylishly made movie… from the beautifully framed widescreen compositions… to Kay Lee’s meticulously well-appointed production design and the striking costumes of 'Malcolm X' Oscar nominee Ruth Carter.”
—Variety

Spike Lee’s latest transplants Bill Gunn’s 1973 cult thriller Ganja & Hess to present-day New York City and Martha’s Vineyard. An African art professor is stabbed by his assistant with a cursed Ashanti dagger, leaving him thirsting for blood. Crowdfunded on Kickstarter and shot in an astonishing 16 days, this “thrilling” (The New Yorker) blend of horror, romance, and comedy features a jazz piano score by Bruce Hornsby and a rousing gospel performance at the Lil’ Piece of Heaven Baptist Church of Lee’s Red Hook Summer.
