Directed by Charles Burnett | 1983

With Everett Silas, Jessie Holmes, Gaye Shannon-Burnett

"A film that is so firmly and organically rooted in a specific time and place that it seems to contain worlds."
—A.O. Scott, The New York Times

Charles Burnett’s follow-up to Killer of Sheep was this poignant drama about an aimless young man (Silas) torn between his working-class roots in South Central LA and his family’s middle-class aspirations. Silas’ conflict comes to a head when his best friend gets out jail. Burnett’s long-unseen neorealist portrait is “full of the rough poetry of everyday experience” (A.O. Scott, The New York Times).
