Directed by Ross McElwee | 1986
"A loping, idiosyncratic reverie through history and the heart, loosely conjoined by the camera lens."
—The A.V. Club

In 1981, filmmaker Ross McElwee set out to recreate General Sherman’s historic Civil War march through the South—and find true love along the way. The result: this delightfully offbeat documentary, in which McElwee records his dalliances with an array of eccentric women (including a Burt Reynolds-obsessed actress), while delivering deadpan musings on everything from American history to nuclear annihilation.
