Directed by William Friedkin | 1977

With Roy Scheider, Bruno Cremer, Francisco Rabal

“Sorcerer trumps today's event filmmaking with every mud puddle and pit stain, with rain- and sweat-streaked actors who never look like they've just swanned from the trailer to the green screen.”
—Alan Scherstuhl, The Village Voice

Overshadowed on its release by Star Wars mania, William Friedkin’s palm-sweating thriller takes French classic The Wages of Fear, rounds out the characters, and ups the grittiness factor. The result is a suspense tour-de-force in which four lost souls transport a truckload of explosive nitroglycerin through the South American jungle—and over one seriously rickety rope bridge. Tangerine Dream’s electronic score heightens the existential dread.
