Directed by Cédric Jimenez | 2014
With Jean Dujardin, Gilles Lellouche, Céline Sallette
Academy Award winner Jean Dujardin (The Artist) plays against type in this gripping thriller that draws from the same criminal ring that inspired William Friedkin’s classic The French Connection. Pierre Michel is a Marseilles magistrate dedicated to apprehending a fearsome heroin czar (Gilles Lellouche); with echoes of Jean-Pierre Melville, they are two sides of a coin, more alike than the rats in their respective organizations. Director Cédric Jimenez stylishly resurrects the disco age, highlighted by Dujardin’s Delon-esque turn, alongside performances by Benoît Magimel (The Piano Teacher) and the luminous Céline Sallette (House of Pleasures) as Pierre Michel’s wife. A Drafthouse Films release.
